Stephen J. Kepros, 76, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, is caring for Stephen’s family and his services.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Ofelia; children, Chad (Holly) Kepros, Stephanie (Damon) Robinson, and Andrea (Michael) Caballero; grandchildren, Max, Patrick, William, Gabe, Raymond, Mariah, Sophia, Sydney, Ian, Will, and Anita; and siblings, Ellen, Stanley, Sr. Mary Julia, RSM, Michael, Katherine, and Frank Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Peter and James.
Stephen was born October 5, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Zofia (Nowak) Kepros. He graduated from Marion High School and then took over his father’s shoe repair business. Stephen served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. He married Ofelia Verzosa at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Stephen attended Mt. Mercy College and Rosary College obtaining his Master’s Degree in Library Science. He worked for Grant Wood AEA until retiring.
Stephen loved his family and welcomed everyone into his home. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and camping. Stephen traveled to the Philippines and helped many people; he cared deeply for the less fortunate. He built homes, clothed the naked, fed the hungry, buried the dead, and visited the sick.
