Stanley “Stan” William Ahlrichs, 66, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Funeral service will immediately follow at 12 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, with Certified Celebrant Amy Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Stan was born on March 9, 1958, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Dorothy Ahlrichs. He was a 1976 graduate of Monticello High School. On October 16, 1982, Stan was united in marriage to Cheryl Hofer in Mount Vernon, Iowa. He worked 45 years at Evergreen Packaging as a CNC Machinist, until his retirement on April 6, 2023. In his spare time, he worked at the Lighthouse Inn for seven years and then at Indian Creek Country Club for 19 years. He was an amazing chef and enjoyed watching his fish in his aquarium, woodworking, flower gardening with Cheryl, and gambling. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren. Stan will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Stan is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Cheryl Ahlrichs of Hiawatha; children, Tobi (Nygil) Stifter of Hiawatha, and Trudi Sherbon of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Chase Sherbon, Abigail Sherbon; Kaleb Turner, Izabel Sherbon, Noah Lunden, and Zoie Lunden; great-grandchildren, Eliza Sherbon, and Kylen Lunden; siblings, Pat (Jack) Zieser of Ryan, Iowa, Linda (Melvin) Grassfield of Anamosa, Iowa, and Steve (Jean) Ahlrichs of Durant, Iowa; and mother-in-law, Audrey Hofer of Randalia, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Dora Calvey; father-in-law, John Hofer; and brothers and sisters-in-law, John (Jonnie) Hofer, and Peg (Tim) Nelson.
