Stanley “Bud” Smith, 90, a resident of Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Celebration of Life: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Springville Presbyterian Church by Rev. Karen Downey Beals. Stan was cremated and the family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. A private graveside service will be held. Military honors will be provided by Springville American Legion Post No. 331.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Phyllis (Kenny) Hoge of Springville and Linda (Jim) Kaas of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Nicole (Tym) Healey, Randy (Jana) Stambaugh, Heidi (Mike) Bernet, Molly (Bob) Anderson, and Andy (Christina) Hoge; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Leta Schott; a brother, Robert Smith; and an infant brother.
Stanley was born July 23, 1917, the son of Harry and Flo (Pollock) Smith in Brown Township, Linn County. He graduated from Coe College. On November 2, 1941, he married Mary Imogene Christian in Hannibal, Missouri. Stanley served with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was an auctioneer, owning and operating Coggon Livestock Sales Company for over forty years.
A memorial fund has been established in Stanley’s memory.
