Stanley G. Richardson, 86, of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Cottage Grove Place, of congestive heart failure. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2006, at St. Paul?s United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Harlan Gillespie and Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Private Burial prior to the funeral service, Thursday, December 7, 2006, at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Frances; two children, Linda (Sam) Simonetta of Loveland, Colorado and Robert E. (Pamela) Richardson of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Richardson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David Allen Richardson in November of 1995 and William Roy "Bill? Richardson in May of 2001; and a brother, Wayne Richardson of Ann Arbor, Michigan in March of 2003.
Stan was born April 4, 1920, the son of Russell and Grace (Torrey) Richardson in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He served during World War II in the 20th Weather Squadron in New Guinea, Luzon and the Ryukyus, and Korea from April 1943 to January 1946. Stan graduated from the Eastern Michigan University with a BS degree in June of 1946. On October 25, 1946, he was united in marriage to Frances A. Raes in Ann Arbor Michigan, where he worked for Advertisers Publishing Company until 1953. Stan then took a position at National Artcrafts (a Christmas card company) in Detroit from 1953-1956.
In 1956, he joined Acme Greeting Card Company and moved to Cedar Rapids. Stan became owner of this company (now Acme Graphics) in 1989. He sold the company in 2001. Stan served on the Board of Education and JCC from 1951-1955 in East Ann Arbor. In 1964, he was a Boy Scout leader in Cedar Rapids and served as Vice-President of Trade and Industry Committee for Junior Achievement in 1969. Stan served on the Board of Directors in 1975 and became President in 1976 of the Executive Club of Cedar Rapids. He was a member of St. Paul?s United Methodist Church, the YMCA and the Promotional Products Association International.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at St. Paul?s Methodist Church, 1340 3rd Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403 or the YMCA Central Branch, 207 7th Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401, in memory of Stan.
