Sidney "Bud? Chapman, 80, of 2724 E Avenue N.W., Cedar Rapids, died in his home Monday, March 17, 2003, of cancer. Graveside Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends Wednesday, March 19, 2003, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Sidney?s home. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.

Surviving are four sons, Greg and special friend Janet Aldrich, Tom Chapman and Mike (Ann) Chapman, all of Cedar Rapids and Larry Chapman (LaShelle) of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Mary (George) Britton of Moline, Illinois and Sarah Little of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Wayne Chapman of Cottonwood, Arizona, Vernon Chapman of Waukon and Darrell Chapman of Hartland, Wisconsin; a sister, Grenlyn Fuller of Wisconsin.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Aaron, Bryce and Kiaya Chapman and Emily and Martin Britton; and a great-granddaughter, Payton Chapman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie; and a brother Dale.

Sidney was born the son of Cecil H. and Ruth M. Burnham Chapman on December 22, 1922 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. On August 8, 1947, in Waukon, he was united in marriage to Marie Elizabeth Joy. She died in 1991. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Bud worked as an engineer for Wilson?s for thirty-six years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of VFW Post 788 of Cedar Rapids.

Sidney was affectionately known as "Bud? or "Chappy? by his family and friends. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

The family requests no flowers. Instead, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or a charity of the donor?s choice in Bud?s memory.
