Shirley “Shirel” E. Lamb, Cedar Rapids, passed away July 6, 2018 at age 92. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, officiated by Pastor Bonnie Koeppen. Visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m Wednesday at the Church. Burial with military honors will take place at Ivy Hill Cemetery near Malcom at 3:00 pm. Wednesday. Shirel was born April 8, 1926 at home near Malcom, Iowa to William and Emma (Schultz) Lamb. He grew up on the farm and attended Malcom and Brooklyn schools, graduating from Brooklyn High School in 1943.
Shirel married Dorothy Marie Freese on October 25, 1944 in Brooklyn. He entered the US Naval Air Corps in 1943, attended John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio for two years where he then went on to serve on the USS TH Bliss. He spent his naval time in the European Theater until discharged in January 1946. Shirel and Dorothy lived in Brooklyn, Emmetsburg, and Cedar Rapids, where they raised three children.
Shirel worked all his years in the mechanical field of plumbing, heating, and air conditioning. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He followed all sports and always enjoyed good conversation. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, serving as a Sunday school teacher at one time. He coached Little League baseball and was a member of the Masonic Order for over 50 years. Shirel also served on the Electrical Board of Review in Cedar Rapids and was a member of Local 263 Sheet Metal Workers Union.
After the death of his wife Dorothy in 1991, Shirel married Joanne Gensicke Berchenbriter December 3, 1999 in Cedar Rapids.
Shirel is survived by daughter Barbara Hamilton, Cedar Falls; son Lynn (Darlene) Lamb, Oro Valley, Arizona; daughter-in-law Gail Lamb, Cedar Falls; step-daughters Ann Teidt, Marion; Dawn Trudeau, Seattle; Lynn (Alan) Goya, Las Vegas; and step-son Dean (Carol) Berchenbriter, Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; thirteen step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; brother, Merle (Ruth) Lamb, Grinnell; sister-in-law Dorothy Freese, Cedar Rapids; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both his first and second wife; son, Edwin Lamb; son-in-law, Larry Hamilton; three brothers, Truman, Faye, and LaVern Lamb; two sisters, Bernice Pals and Maxine Smith; six brothers-in-law; and five sisters-in-law.
Memorials may be designated to St. Mark’s Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids or to the family for designation at a later time.

Traveling East on Highway 30 into Cedar Rapids
1. Turn North (or left) onto Stoney Point Road – turn East (or right) onto 1st Avenue – turn left onto Johnson Avenue and travel to St. Mark’s parking lot entrance which will be on the left before you get all the way to the corner of Johnson Avenue and Jacolyn Drive.
2. Turn North (or left) onto Jacolyn Drive to Johnson Avenue, turn left onto Johnson Avenue and then a quick right into the parking lot of St. Mark’s.
Traveling from Highway 151
1. Turn North (or left) onto Wiley Blvd. and go to 16th Avenue, turn West (or left) onto 16th Avenue and go to Jacolyn Drive, turn North (or right) onto Jacolyn Drive and go to Johnson Avenue, turn left onto Johnson Avenue and a quick right into the parking lot of St. Mark’s.
Coming from the East
1. At the corner of Edgewood road and E Avenue go West on E Avenue, travel to Jacolyn Drive, turn South (or left) onto Jacolyn Drive, travel to Johnson Avenue, turn right onto Johnson Avenue and take another quick right into the parking lot of St. Mark’s.
Parking is very limited due to a construction project we are working on. If you pull into the St. Mark’s parking lot and it is full you can drive all the way through and exit crossing Jacolyn Drive into the Dollar General parking lot east of the church and park there. The church has an entrance on the East side as well that will be open.
