Shirley Ann Oltmann, 85, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017, at Monticello Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, Monticello, Iowa. A Parish Scripture Service will begin at 3:30 p.m., on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Central City. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. following the scripture service on Wednesday at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, located at 4700 Valley Farm Road, in Central City. Cremation will follow the mass on Thursday. Burial will take place at a later date at Blodgett Cemetery, in Central City.

Shirley was born on April 3, 1932, in Worthington, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Hilda (Wilhelm) Hildebrand. She was a 1951 graduate of Coggon High School in Coggon, Iowa. On July 11, 1951, Shirley was united in marriage to Raymond G. Oltmann in Prairieburg, Iowa. While Raymond was serving with the Army during the Korean Conflict, Shirley was employed as a seamstress with Reliance Shirt Factory. When Raymond returned home from the Korean Conflict, together Shirley and Raymond began their life-long passion of farming. For the rest of her life, Shirley was a dedicated hard-working farmer and enjoyed managing the two family farms. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Church Guild. Shirley was also the Chair Person of the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee for several years, and a Hospice Volunteer. In 1995, Shirley was selected as the ‘Mother of the Year’ by the Iowa Mothers Association. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her daughters, Marsha (Gary) Stril of Tacoma, Washington, Beverly (Duane) Bolton of Central City, Judith (Bob) Hurley of San Antonio, Texas and Virginia (Kyle) Ulferts of Anamosa, Iowa; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemary Coleman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Irma (Mark) Leonard of Monticello, Iowa, Eleanor (Lloyd) Mueller of Dubuque, Iowa and Myra Oltmann of Marion, Iowa.

She was preceded into eternal life by her parents; husband, Raymond; one granddaughter, Anastasia; three brothers-in-law, Ronald Coleman, Marvin (Mabel) Oltmann, and Eugene Oltmann; and sister-in-law, Audrey (Walter) Reiter.
