Shirley M. Odell, 78, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, May 18, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, after a short illness.
Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion is in charge of arrangements.
Shirley was born on December 25, 1925, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Henry & Viola (Winam) Bopp. She graduated from Kirkwood High School, Kirkwood, Missouri, then attended DePaul University, Greencastle, Indiana, and Washington University, St. Louis. On May 12, 1946, Shirley was united in marriage to Lee C. Odell in St. Louis.
Shirley was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids. She will be remembered for her love of golf and won many trophies at the Cedar Rapids Country Club. She past this love on to her grandson and taught him how to play. She also enjoyed volunteering and worked diligently with Mercy Medical Center particular during Sister Mary Lawrence?s tenure. Shirley was also active in the Community Theater during Don Fesher?s reign.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Lee C. Odell of Cedar Rapids; her son, Michael L. Odell of Cedar Rapids; a daughter and her husband, Jan & Bob Butterworth of Marion; and a grandson, Mitchell B. Odell of Cedar Rapids.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Viola Bopp.
In lieu of flowers, Shirley?s family request that memorials be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society, 7411 Mt. Vernon Rd SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403.
