Shirley Aileen Mulherin, 89, a resident of The Villages at Marion, died Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids by Rev. John R. Flaherty. The family will greet friends at 10:00 a.m. prior to the mass at the church on Tuesday. Burial: St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Survivors include her children, Karen Soteco of Marion, Diane (Rich) Rezek of Morristown, NJ, and Michael (Nancy) Mulherin of Marion; grandchildren, Erin (Dave) Westerholm, Brian (Esther) Soteco, Robyn (Duane) McClure, Shelly (Claudio) Carrasco, Mick (Katy) Mulherin, Casey (Molly) Mulherin, and Katie Mulherin; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Alice (Collentine) Zemanek; her husband, Harold A. Mulherin; sister, Gloria Saulon; and granddaughter, Kristine Roby.
Shirley was born December 12, 1925, in Cedar Rapids. She married Harold Mulherin on January 24, 1946. Shirley worked for the Office of Price Administration for the U.S. Government, and later she and Harold owned and operated Beef-A-Roo restaurant in Cedar Rapids from 1969 to 1989. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church since 1955, a charter member, and involved in many of the church groups there, including Young at Heart, the Prayer Tree, and St. Ann’s Circle. Shirley was also a member of Palette Pals artist’s group of Springville.
