Shirley Jennings, 94, of the Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the Woodlands of the Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
A memorial service will be at 9:00 AM Monday, February 26, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church, Marion performed by Jim Langley. Visitation will follow for an hour. Her body has been donated to the College of Medicine at the University of Iowa.
She grew up in Columbus, Nebraska. She graduated from Hastings College, Hastings, Nebraska. She earned a Master of Arts degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary, San Anselmo, California.
As a minister’ wife, she taught Sunday Church School classes and conducted Bible studies in church women’s groups. She was ordained as a deacon, served as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church, Marion. Shirley wrote two books of children’s talks which were published and wrote abstracts of Christian education articles, “Notes of Interest to Church Educators,” which were published quarterly in Church Teachers magazine.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Marion, Iowa.
Surviving are her two sons, Steven (Kelley) Jennings, Texas and David (Kim) Jennings, Iowa, six grandchildren, Angela (Claudiu) Toma, Eric Jennings, Zoe Jennings, Quinn Jennings, Michelle (Austin) Katt, and Ryan (Heather) Jennings, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, and a sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Presbyterian Church of Marion, Iowa or the Meth-Wick Community of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
