Shirley JoAnn (Gardner) Ferroni, 80, of Ely, formerly of Monticello, passed away peacefully Friday, October 14, 2016, in her daughter’s home with her beloved family by her side. The family will greet friends from 1 – 3 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life Service: 3 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016, at the funeral home conducted by Mike Olinger. Casual dress is requested. Inurnment: Anderson Cemetery, Swisher. Following burial, friends are invited to join the family for a gathering at the Swisher American Legion.
Shirley is survived by her beloved Chihuahua, “Chica”; daughters, Candi Gardner (Jim Hoyt) of Ely and Gena (Rob) Pudil of Swisher; son, Eron Ferroni of Centerville; grandchildren, Trisha (Ryan) Oldfather of Stone City, Joshua (Melanie) Umbdenstock of Swisher, Kody (Rachelle) Pudil of Swisher, Kourtney (Brandon) Janss of Swisher, Gage, Tanner, and Rhianna Cook of Cedar Rapids, Emma Ferroni of Mechanicsville, Jessica Moffit of Mechanicsville, and Stacey Mashmann of Mechanicsville; great grandchildren, Taylor, Megan, and Brooklyn Umbdenstock, Makayla and Tyler Maschmann, Serena and Liliana Moffitt, Sophia Deppe, and Charleigh and Daxton Pudil; sister, Jewell (Don) Midthum of Des Moines; brother, Tom (Eloise) Gardner of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Geno (1970); parents; brother, Raymond Gardner; sister, Jean Wallace, and sister-in-law, Bev Gardner.
Shirley was born January 23, 1936, in Osceola, Iowa, the daughter of William Roswell and Tressie Helena (Woods) Gardner. In 1963, she married Geno Joseph Ferroni in Booneville, Iowa. Shirley worked many years sewing for Polo Plastics, was an adult assistant with Systems Unlimited, and at Casey’s General Store in Mechanicsville as a donut baker. She enjoyed morning coffee with her friends and Tuesday night bingo when she lived in Monticello. Shirley’s favorite past times were reading and riding her electric scooter around Ely with her faithful canine companion, Chica. She also loved her occasional trips to the casino to play the penny slots.
