Shirley Jean Beebe, 74, of 1629 Huron Drive, Marion, formerly of Central City, died, Saturday, February 16, 2008, at home, of lung cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Central City United Church of Christ by Rev. Jonna Jensen. The family will greet friends from 4 - 8 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, William “Bill” Beebe of Marion; a daughter, Sandra J. (Victor) Liegl of Central City; two sons, Robert D. (Donna) Beebe of Decorah; Calvin E. (Linda) Beebe of Rochester, Minnesota; a sister, Madilene (“Shorty”) Harrison of Marion; a brother, Robert Batcheler of Central City; eight grandchildren, and 5 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Shirley was born February 10, 1934, the daughter of Rollo and Gladys (Merritt) Batcheler, in Linn County, Iowa. She married William Beebe on August 14, 1953 at the Prairie Chapel Church. She retired from St. Luke’s Hospital as a Patient Assistant. She was an avid Ham radio operator and attained a General license. Shirley also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and baking. Shirley was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and will be missed.
