Scott J DeVore, of Cedar Rapids, died unexpectedly September 13, 2022.
Born January 13, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was the son of Jean (Peterson) and Richard DeVore.
Scott grew up on adventure and earned an informal education through experience. He became a young father with his first wife, Rhonda, to his son Ryan. Later he was a father to Marcus and Allie with his second wife, Lynne. He and his dad, Richard, were the last father-son team to work at Universal Engineering, where he worked for 29 years, serving both the company and its staff as a Union Steward. He was a man of the people, for the people.
A beloved member of the community, you could find him on any bike trail, in any season. He knew no stranger. Scott knew and loved bikes and put his knowledge to work, both at Hall Bicycle and while out on a ride. He and his son Marc shared an interest in motorsports and performance cars. He was an active athlete all his life and when not competing himself, you could trust he’d be cheering on the other athletes in the arena.
Scott shared his life with his three children (Ryan, Marcus, and Allie), one grandchild (Kaylee), dear friend and former partner of 36 years (Lynne), current partner (Blanche), siblings: Doug (Roberta) DeVore, Marie (Kevin) Fiscus, Phil (Tammy) Chiafos, Mike DeVore, Lou Ann (Dennis) Dunlap, and Jill (Mike) Mitchell. Scott was also a great uncle and friend to many. He joins both his parents in death.
