Sarah “Sally” Welsh, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, Rosary at 4:00 p.m., at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at St. Ludmila Church, Cedar Rapids. Interment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Sally was born in Caledonia, Minnesota, daughter of Helen White and Howard Danaher. She graduated from Elkader High School and married Carroll Welsh on September 15, 1952. Sally spent many years as a certified Dental Assistant and supervising other dental assistants. She worked at the Oakdale Clinic and was instrumental in setting up the clinic that served those who couldn’t afford dental care. Sally was past president of the Iowa Dental Assistants Association as well as Editor of the IDAA Journal. She was a member of St. Ludmila Church for over 50 years. Sally loved her church and the many friends who helped her celebrate her joys and sorrows. She served on the parish council, Discipleship Committee, supervised funeral dinners, and founded “Tea with Thee”. Sally was also a member of the St. Monica’s Circle. She received her AA degree from Kirkwood Community College when it was not the “in” thing for those with grey hair. Sally retired from Kirkwood in 2000 to take care of her husband Carroll who was in poor health. She loved the theater, music, writing, Iowa football, and following Zack Johnson. She loved her children more than they will ever know. Sally volunteered at the St. Vincent De Paul and owned her own stained glass business. She was past president of the Mended Hearts and volunteered many hours visiting heart patients.
Sally is survived by her children, Karen Solt of Parker, Colorado, Patrick James (Kathy) Welsh of Robins, Donald Michael (Becky) Welsh of Cedar Rapids; brother, Jim Danaher of Bonita Springs, Florida; and her grand and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; baby brother, John; husband, Carroll; and son, Marty Welsh.
