Sandy T. Sanfilippo, 81, of Dundee died Thursday, October 21, 2010 at the Regional Medical Center.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 28, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester by Rev. John Flaherty. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m, Wednesday, October 27, 2010 where there will be a 6:00 p.m. Wake Service at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester. Additional visitation: one hour before service at the church. Burial will be in the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids, IA.

Sandy was born May 23, 1929 in Bronx, New York, the daughter of Salvator and Caroline Sgandurra. On June 29, 1952, she was united in marriage to Joseph Anthony Sanfilippo at the Our Lady of Assumption Church, Bronx, New York. Sandy worked for the Chase Manhattan National Bank in New York as a secretary. The couple moved to Iowa in 1980 settling in the Backbone State Park area. Sandy worked at the Assessors Office in Manchester.

Sandy was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester. The couple were very involved in the “Friends of the Backbone State Park”, receiving an accommodation from Gov. Vilsack.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joe Sanfilippo of Dundee, Michael T. Sanfilippo, Joe P. (Dolores) Sanfilippo, and David B. (JoAnne) Sanfilippo; five grandchildren, Paul, Mark, Matthew, Amanda, and Brian; a brother Anthony (Rosalie) Sgandurra; a sister, Lena (Michael) DiMartino; two sister-in-laws, Millie Sgandurra and Carol Sanfilippo.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Salvator and Caroline Sgandurra; a brother, Lou Sgandurra; and a brother-in-law, Pete Sanfilippo.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester or the “Friends of the Backbone State Park”.
