Ryan Alan Danly was born June 23, 1981, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Richard (Rick) and Teresa (Himmel) Danly. He lost his fight with cancer on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 36. The family will greet friends in Cedar Rapids from 1 – 4 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service. In Ryan’s memory, the family encourages everyone to wear their favorite sports team attire. Funeral Services: Saturday, October 21, 2017, in Greenfield with burial at Greenfield Cemetery.
He was raised in Cedar Rapids and attended Jefferson High School graduating in 2000. In his earlier years, he played baseball with the Cedar Rapids Little Reds and Cedar Hills Booster Club. He went on to play for the minor leagues as a left handed pitcher with the New York Mets in 2001 to 2006. He has always dreamed about coaching kids in baseball and the past year he was helping coach the Nodaway Valley High Baseball team. Another dream he had was to be a firefighter and fulfilled that dream by becoming a part of the Greenfield Fire Department. He was employed at Cardinal IG in Greenfield. On April 28, 2012, he was united in marriage to Stephanie (Jensen) Danly at the United Methodist Church in Greenfield. To this union three daughters, Kennedy Jo, Brooklyn Ryan, and Arianna Grace were born.
His greatest joy was being a father to his daughters. He loved fishing, camping, coaching baseball, being on the fire department, softball, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Greenfield.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Dick Danly; maternal grandfather, Alan (Bud) Himmel; maternal grandmother, Glennola Himmel; and sister, Stacy Danly.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Danly and their daughters, Kennedy, Brooklyn, and Arianna; parents, Rick and Teresa Danly of Cedar Rapids, one sister, Melissa Danly (Jesse Royse) of Cedar Rapids; paternal grandmother, JoAnn Danly of Cedar Rapids; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Randy and Lori Jensen of Greenfield; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chad and Brittany Jensen and their children, Azalea and Axton of Adel; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
