Ruth E. Williams, 84, of Village Place, Marion, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 06, 2008, in University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2008, in Salem United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev, Linda Bibb. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, February 10, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Kay (Dennis) Murphy of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Bruce Williams and partner John Bush of Los Angeles, California and Carol (Rick) Stone of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Laura (Jeff) Kaufman, Tom (Kate) Murphy, Lisa Murphy, Corey Stone and Callie Stone; and three great grandchildren, Zane Kaufman, Jack Murphy and Ryan Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Grace Williams; step mother, Mayme Williams; husband, Jim; son, Jimmy; five brothers, Bill, Ernest, Paul, George and David; and one sister, Mary Louise.
Ruth was born September 3, 1923, in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of W. Clark and Grace (Lanning) Williams. On May 14, 1944, in Humboldt, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Jim Williams. He died November 23, 2001. Ruth attended Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI) for two years. She worked for Armstrong’s Department Store.
Ruth was a member of Salem United Methodist church since 1955. She was also a long time member of United Methodist Women, King’s Daughters and Golden Links.
