Ruth Irene (Sheppard) Wenzel, 74, of 5451 Gordon Ave. NW, died Sunday, January 18, 2004, in her son?s home in Cedar Rapids, after a lengthy illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 21.) Burial: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, Iowa.
Survivors include a son, William Henry Wenzel II and Coyleen Striegel of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Danny Silliven, Jay Wenzel, Kelli Wenzel, Dionne Halstead and Danielle Striegel; ten great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Clarence Sheppard and wife May of Cedar Rapids and Marvin Sheppard and wife Maurine of Hanover, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Finley Sheppard.
Ruth Irene Sheppard was born April 15, 1929, the daughter of Jay Ernest and Nellie (Jones) Sheppard in Manchester, Iowa. Ruth worked for twenty-six years in the housekeeping department at St. Luke?s Hospital.
Ruth loved tending her garden, cooking and taking care of her family.
A memorial fund has been established.
