Ruth Young Ritchie, 90, of Central City, died Friday, November 30, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, conducted by Rev. Josh Hansen. The family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City.

Ruth was born October 13, 1922, to Manley and Pearl (McChristy) Bryan in Sand Springs, Iowa. When Ruth was two years old, her family moved to Hopkinton where she completed her education. She graduated from high school in 1940, and from Lenox College in 1942. On August 8, 1942, Ruth was united in marriage to Irvin T. Young of Marion. To this union were born three children, Leanna (Boyd) Palmer of Central City, Allan (Barbara) Young of Iowa City, and Irvetta (Jack) Voelkl of Mineral, VA. Mr. Young died in January 1967. On April 29, 1973, Ruth married Charles Ritchie of Cedar Rapids. He died in February 2000.

Ruth is survived by her three children; seven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Manley and Pearl; two brothers, Harold and Herbert Bryan; and one nephew, Herbert Jr.

Ruth enjoyed scrapbooking, crossword puzzles, and reading. She was Secretary to the Central City High School Principal for 17 years, and enjoyed all the high school kids that passed through. They were great kids.
