Ruth L. Claney Penningroth, 96, formerly of Manchester, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2005 at the Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, after a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2005 at the Manchester United Methodist Church by Pastor Jill Mack. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.
Ruth was born October 24, 1909 in Clarence, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Jeanette (Schuck) Claney. She graduated from Clarence High School in 1927. Ruth attended Cornell College and Iowa State Teachers College where she received her degree in education in 1929. She taught school at Lost Nation and Clarence. On September 16, 1933, Ruth was united in marriage to Wayne Penningroth at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After many years of farming and other agriculture businesses, the couple retired to Manchester.
Ruth was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, where she taught Sunday and Bible school. Ruth was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Silver Lake Garden Club. She loved flowers, gardening, reading, traveling and crafts.
Ruth will be greatly missed by three daughters, Patricia (Dick) Trefz of Coggon, Carol Peyton of Shelbyville, KY and Sandra (Ronald) Wright of Nixa, MO; eleven grandchildren, Randy (Doris) Trefz of Vinton, Gary (Annette) Trefz of Coggon, Cherie (friend Kevin) Dunn of Coggon, Gail (Brad) Winn of Walker, Curtis (Lavonna) Peyton and Cara (Will) Puckett , both of Shelbyville, KY, Clinton Peyton and Chris Peyton of Dayton, OH, Todd (Suellen) Wright of Union, KY, Chad (Karla) Wright of Princeton, MN, and Bradley (Jacqueline) Wright of Harthill, Scotland; twenty-six great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a sister, Marion Hutchcroft of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne & Jeanette Claney; her husband, Wayne Penningroth in 2001; four great-grandchildren, Danny & Denny Dunn, Mathew Dunn and Nahum Wright; and two brothers, Warren "Bill? and Gene Claney.
