Ruth Nicholas Lillie, 87, of West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Hiawatha, died, Saturday, August 5, 2006, at the care center, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Gary Dobbins. Family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Olson of Yucca Valley, California; nephew, William "Bill? (Janet) Dallas, Jr. of New York City, New York; niece, Dee Gibson of Los Altos, California; and cousin, Dr. Stevan (Louise) Mowrey of Cedar Rapid, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Donna Hahn, and Bobbie; two brothers, Grant Nicholas and James Nicholas; and her husband, George, who died April 24, 2006.
Ruth was born August 14, 1918, the daughter of Arthur and Ava Corell Nicholas, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On March 14, 1964, she was united in marriage to George W. Lillie at the Grace Brethren Church in Cedar Rapids. A graduate from Franklin High School and the Cedar Rapids Business College, Ruth worked for Coe College and the Salvation Army. She loved her pet cats, Baby, Mommy and Lucky.
