Ruth F. Lanning, 69, of Delhi, died at her home on Friday, March 4, 2005 after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at the Delhi United Methodist Church in Delhi, with Rev. Julie May officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and an hour before services on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.
Ruth was born on February 24, 1936 in Colesburg, the daughter of Benjamin H. & Florence E. (Kurrelmeyer) Schenke. In 1954, she graduated from Colesburg Consolidated School. She was confirmed in 1950 at the Colesburg Methodist Church. Ruth worked twelve years for Iowa National Insurance Company in Cedar Rapids. On March 18, 1967, Ruth was united marriage to Walter C. "Pete? Lanning of Delhi at the First Methodist Church in Colesburg. They spent their married life farming near Delhi. For the past seven years, Ruth worked part-time at the Penn Center Home in Delhi.
Ruth was a member of the Delhi United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir and was a member of the Martha Circle. She belonged to the Colesburg Rebeka Lodge, Delhi Women?s Book Club and the Upper Bay Grange. Ruth enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Ruth was a loving wife and mother, always caring for the needs of others first. She was surrounded my many friends that supported her through her final illness. Ruth?s family and friends will cherish the fond memories of her.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Walter "Pete? Lanning of Delhi; two sons, Michael & Ericia (Sauerbry) Lanning of Lamont and David & Delaine (Vaske) Lanning of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Robert (Hope) Schenke of Turlock, CA and Burdette (Lavera) Schenke of Colesburg; three sisters, Marie Schenke, Wilma (Robert) Lincoln and Janet (Virgil) Brockmeyer, all of Colesburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin & Florence Schenke; and a sister, Donna Reynolds.
