Ruth M. Prescott Lamphier, 89, a resident of Bickford Cottage, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center, following a short illness. Service: 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 26, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, by the Rev. José Luis Comparán. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, with a parish vigil service to be held at 4:30 p.m. and a rosary to follow by the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include her children, Ronald Prescott of Marion, Mary Rozinek and husband Bob of Whittier, Barbara Beck and husband Ron of Pewaukee, Wisconsin and Kevin Lamphier and wife Susan of Delhi.

Also surviving are five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two brothers, Harry and Russell Kray; and three sisters, Esther Johnson, Elsie King and Helen Darnell.

Ruth was born the daughter of William and Meda Schenenberger Kray on June 14, 1914, in Vinton. On March 28, 1937 she was married to Charles Prescott. He died February 25, 1945 while he was serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She then married Leonard Lamphier on December 28, 1946, in Vinton. He died May 1, 1997. Ruth was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion.

Ruth was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center and hosted Cookie Day at Farmers State Bank for many years.

She loved gardening, sewing, quilting and was great at cooking and baking.

Memorials may be made in Ruth?s memory to Anna Purna Ghosh Foundation, which helps cancer blood disease patients with the cost of medicine.
