Ruth Ellen Kinzey
September 19, 1920 — February 14, 2005
Ruth E. Kinzey, 84, a resident of Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, IA, formerly of Cedar Rapids, IA, died Monday, Feb.14, 2005, at the care center, following a brief illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, IA, by the Rev. Steven Rosonke. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, IA. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, IA, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Kinzey of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jennie Davis of Hiawatha, IA, Nancy Bruner and husband James of Cedar Rapids, IA and Ruth Ellen Kinzey and husband Joseph E. Gettys of Salisbury, N.C.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Tamara Nesselhauf of Cedar Rapids, Pamella Hughes and husband Rick of Cedar Rapids, Julie Schneekloth and husband Terry of Ely; two great-grandchildren, Lucy Schneekloth and Colin Hughes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilbert; a grandson, Carl Davis; and a son-in-law, Ron Davis.
Ruth was born the daughter of Thomas and Rose Mrstik Mackey on September 19, 1920, in Ely. On August 16, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, she was united in marriage to Gilbert A. Kinzey. He died January 12, 2001. Ruth owned and operated a custom-made drapery business in Cedar Rapids for many years. She was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Daughters of Isabelle and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. Ruth, also, was a St. Jude?s Junior High Guardian for Camp Fire Girls, precinct worker, and a volunteer at Jane Boyd Community House and Mercy Hospital.
Ruth was a loving mother and friend. During her lifetime, she enjoyed her roses and her birds. She dearly loved children and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Linn Manor Care Center for their love and support they provided to Ruth and her family. They would like to thank Dr. Marc Wilkinson and his staff for the care they provided.
