Ruth Kinkead, 101, of Marion, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 1 – 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Private Family Inurnment: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, Iowa at a later date.
Survivors include her children, Jenny Dye of Marion, Dick (Mary) Kinkead of Kerrville, TX, and Scott Kinkead of Central City; her brother, Frank Klemm of Marion; 5 grandchildren, Rae Kinkead of Central City, Vaughn Kinkead of Alburnett, Cris Kinkead of London, England, Lorrie Balk of Spencer, and Craig Kinkead of Marion; 6 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her parents, Riner and Florence Klemm; her brother, Max Klemm; and son-in-law, Robert Dye.
Ruth was born on June 25, 1914 in Savannah, Illinois to Riner and Florence (Mason) Klemm. When she was an infant, the family moved to Iowa and Ruth was raised in northern Linn County, near Muckersville. After graduating from Marion High School, she married Melvin Kinkead on July 6, 1935 in Savannah, IL. Ruth was a welder during WWII and then a secretary at Collins Radio (Rockwell) until retiring in 1974. She was a member of German Lutheran Church in Savannah, Illinois, West Prairie A & L Club, the Alburnett Historical Society, and Garden Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice in Ruth’s memory.
