Ruth E. Dyrland, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Private Committal: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Ruth was born April 21, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Ollie and Frances (Young) Zier. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1946, and worked for Iowa Electric Light Company. On February 14, 1948, Ruth was united in marriage to Eugene “Cheno” Dyrland and became a full time homemaker. She enjoyed camping in the western states of the country and loved to sew, garden, and play cards. Ruth was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church and Comfort Makers quilting ministry.
Survivors include her children, Doug (Marilyn) Dyrland of Cedar Rapids and Deb Roman of Anamosa; grandchildren, Kevin (Dr. Rachel Bergstrom) Dyrland, Laura Dyrland (Aaron Kainz); great-granddaughter, Freyja Bergstrom; sister-in-law, Colleen Brownlie; nieces, Pam (Tom) Martens and Shan Kreager; nephews, Steve (Pat) Freeman, Dana Dyrland, Rob (Helen Fairbrother) Brownlie, Lars (Jean) Brownlie, Eric Brownlie; and many great-nieces and nephews as well as many close friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene “Cheno” in 2013; infant grandsons, David and Todd Dyrland; sister, Alice Freeman and husband, Ray; in-laws, Robert Brownlie; and Don and Karen Dyrland; and many beloved friends and pets.
Ruth’s family would like to thank the entire staff at UnityPoint, especially the 6th floor and nurses, Pam and Chris, for their compassion and loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church Organ Fund or Last Hope Animal Rescue in Cedar Rapids.
