Ruth M. Baker, 91, of Whittier, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. John Kaiser. The family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Survivors include daughters, Delores “Dee” McKee of Olathe, Kansas, and Joyce (Butch) Stutt of Marion; a sister, Barbara (Stan) West of Des Moines; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Baker; a sister, Hazel Smith; a brother, Bill Cawthon; and a son, Donald Baker.

Ruth was born April 12, 1916, the daughter of James and Dessie (Nichols) Cawthon, in State Center, Iowa. She married Charles Baker in 1936. He died in 1993. Ruth was a housekeeper at Winslow House Care Center for 17 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Springville United Methodist Church and a member of the Whittier Home and Garden Club.
