Ruby A. Wilson, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2017, at her home. Visitation: 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at the funeral home, with Rev. David Renfro officiating. Interment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Ruby was born February 21, 1940, in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon and Rose (Timmerman) Reuter. She was born at her paternal grandparents’ home with the assistance of the doctor and nurse that lived next door. Her older sister, Helen, at 2 ½ tried to give Ruby a toy egg beater to start her cooking lessons early. Ruby worked on the farm helping with the cooking, cleaning and babysitting. During high school, she lived with her grandparents and worked at various jobs including at the Maid Rite, bus depot, A & W Root Beer stand as a car hop, and also as a nanny. After Ruby graduated from Cresco High School in 1958, she married Gordon Wilson. They lived in Cresco until they moved to Cedar Rapids. Ruby worked part-time at various school cafeterias, delivered phonebooks and was a Blue Bird Group leader. She retired from Target after 25 years. She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Ruby enjoyed sewing, fishing, flower gardens, cooking and bird watching.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Anita (Pat) Kaplan of Marion, Iowa and Linda (Brian) Meyer of South Amana, Iowa; two grandchildren, Stephanie Kaplan and Travis Kaplan; brother, Robert (Phyllis) Reuter of Waterloo, Iowa; and sister, Ida (Donald) Zakostelecky of Lime Springs, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon and three sisters, Helen Zakostelecky, Karen Fritz and Ruth Leferink.
