Ruby F. Huyck, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, August 11, 2007, at ManorCare Health Service, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Memorial Service: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Peter Hoft. The family will greet friends from 12:30 until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Private Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane (Richard) Hoelz of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Mary (Alvin) Nebel of Denver, Colorado, Bethany (Rev. Peter) Hoft of Eldridge, Iowa, and Susan (Rev. Jeremiah) Johnson of Richmond, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Christopher and Gretchen Joanna Hoft; a sister, Vera Robison of Independence, Iowa; sister-in-law, Loretta Walton of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard; three sisters, Edna Hodgins, Irma Deke and Ola Kruse; and two brothers, Harlan and Milton Walton.
Ruby was born March 8, 1916, in Rowley, Iowa, to Marshall and Grace (Lowery) Walton. She moved to Independence where she attended 8th grade and graduated from Independence High School. Her first job with E. Cohn and Sons brought her to Cedar Rapids, where she met Willard Huyck. They were married September 10, 1037. In 1941, they moved to southern California where they lived for 18 years. In 1959, they returned to Iowa.
Ruby held various jobs as a proofreader with Souvenir Pen and Pencil, Collins Radio, and The Gazette. She also worked in the Linn County Auditor’s office. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
