Roy B. Pewitt, 98, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the funeral home conducted by Lay Minister Deb Black. A memorial service will be held in Kalona at a later date. Burial: Grout Cemetery, rural Sharon Center.

Survivors include his children, Karen (Darrel) Studer of Iowa City, Iowa, Sheila (Daniel) Miranda of Washington State and Howard (Kasey) Pewitt of Iowa City, Iowa; stepson, Larry (Kathy) Wittmer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and brothers, Wayne (Verna) Pewitt of Salem, Missouri, Joe (Marilyn) Pewitt of Bridgeton, Missouri and Dale Pewitt of Ellisville, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Dorothy; second wife, Ina; two sisters, Opal and Rowene; and brothers, Eugene, Coy, Morris and Doyle.

Roy was born on October 26, 1917, in his parent’s log cabin in rural Salem, Missouri, the first born son of Beldon and Hannah (Crow) Pewitt. Roy worked on the family farm until he entered the United States Army part of the Medial Corp during World War II with his five brothers. He married Dorothy June Burkley on May 12, 1946, in South Sharon Methodist (Grout) Church. Roy and Dorothy farmed the Burkley Century Farm for over 44 years next to best friends, Jesse and Ida Grout, who introduced the couple. Dorothy later died. Roy was also a carpenter. He married Ina Tweedy-Wittmer on August 9, 1986, in North Liberty. The couple lived in Riverside and Florida before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1989. Ina died in 2012.
