Roy Vaughn Gordon III, 40, of Vinton, died Sunday, February 3, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, as the result of injuries from a car accident on January 29, 2008. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, Iowa. The Rev. Laurie Riley will officiate. The family will greet friends from 4 ?" 8 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 6) at the funeral home. Burial: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon,
Iowa.
Survivors include his daughter, Allison Rae Stickley of Iowa City; his mother, Bonny Gordon of Central City; his father, Roy (Pat Wilson) Gordon II of Central City; three sisters, Shielly (Jeff) Monck of Monticello, Sherry (Kevin) Wenger of Monticello, and Tracy (Randy) Grapes of Marion; his grandparents, Meryle and Mary Porter of Palo; his girlfriend, Chris Floyd of Cedar Rapids; five nieces, Meghan, Amanda and Nicole Monck, Laci Grapes and Faith Wenger; and three nephews, Scott and Eric Wenger and Tristan Grapes.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Dorothy Meekins, Orvel and Ruth Cress and Roy Gordon Sr.
Roy was born December 17, 1967, the son of Roy V. Gordon Jr. and Bonny (Porter) Gordon in Cedar Rapids. He was a 1986 graduate of Central City High School. On September 6, 1993, he married Donna Elkin and they later divorced. Roy worked at Amana Refrigeration for twenty-one years.
He loved riding his Harley, riding hard, riding free. He loved his family as they loved him.
Roy was a master of all the trades that he had learned; if Roy wanted to learn it, Roy would master it. Roy always had a close and loving family and a daughter, Allison, who he was very proud of.
A memorial fund has been established for his daughter’s education.
