Roy Vaughn Gordon Jr., 70, of Central City, died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, by family friend, Tom Hart. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon, Iowa.
Survivors include his three daughters, Shielly (Jeff) Monck of Monticello, Sherry (Kevin) Wenger of Monticello, and Tracy (Randy) Grapes of Marion; and their mother, Bonny Gordon; his life partner, Pat Wilson; nine grandchildren, Meghan (Brad) Thies, Amanda (David) Hansen, Nicole Monck, Scott Wenger, Eric Wenger, Faith Wenger, Laci (Kile) Knipfer, Tristan Grapes, and Allison Stickley; one great-grandson, Chase Hansen, and one on the way; siblings, Jackie Sell of Reading, PA, Halford Cress of Reading, PA, Bonnie Frowick of Des Moines, Stephen Gleason of Iowa City, Roy “Sonny” Gordon, in Chesapeake VA, Evelyn Gordon, and Pam Kraemer, both of Puyallup, WA.
He was preceded in death by his son, Roy V. Gordon III; father, Roy V. Gordon Sr.; mother, Dorothy Meekins; grandparents, Orvel and Ruth Cress; and uncle, Curt Schnell.
Roy was born July 2, 1944, in Urbana, Iowa, the son of Roy V. and Dorothy (Cress) Gordon. He was a farmer in rural Linn County all his life. Roy enjoyed his wood burning stove, garage sales, and shopping in Amish communities. He enjoyed working outdoors, working with his hands and animals.
