Roy D. Fear, 92, formerly of Central City, a resident of Crestview Acres in Marion/Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, died September 18, 2010 at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.

Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Manchester with Pastor John Brockschink. Visitation: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 24 and one hour before the services at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home. Burial: 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Hopkinton Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post 311.

Roy was born December 17, 1917 in Hopkinton, the son of John and Verna (Meister) Fear. Following graduation from high school, Roy served with the United States Coast Guard from December 1941 – May 1945 during WWII.

Roy farmed, worked as a salesman and was a people person. He loved fishing, square dancing and RV camping.

Roy is survived by a sister-in-law, Mildred Fear of Dubuque; nieces and nephews, Lila (Lee) Opitz of Aurora, Bret Fear of Dubuque, Dennis (Kay) Fear of Monticello, Nancy (Jerry) Trowbridge of Rickardsville, Roger (Sharon) Reid of Yuma, Arizona, and a special friend, Marilyn Slater and family.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Verna Fear; his wife Ann, siblings, Merle Fear, Eve Elliott, Wayne L. Fear, John LaVerne Fear, Herbert H. Fear, Elsie Fear and Emma Reid.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Cresview Acres, Marion and Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, and Iowa Hospice for all the loving care and kindness that they gave to Roy.
