Roy Dean Coe
January 2, 1928 — November 9, 2006
Roy Dean Coe, 78, of the Mayflower Health Center, Grinnell, Iowa, formerly of New Sharon and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, November 9, 2006, in the Mayflower Health Center, from pneumonia. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Rick Gail. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with military honors.
Survivors include his son, Randy Coe; grandchildren, Todd Coe, Kim (Pat) Shields, and Hope Robertsen; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Kenworthy of Des Moines and Coleen Wiley of New Sharon; a brother, Roger Coe of Oskaloosa; and six sisters-in-law, Vivian (John) Plate of Grinnell, Pat (Louis) Mitchell of Melrose, Ann (Ed) Davis of New Sharon, Marge (Lyle) Maudlin of Fairfield, Judy Bushong of Montezuma and Betty Simmons of Nashville, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley; his beloved daughter, Teddi Coe; grandson, Nathan; his parents; sisters, Bertine, Dolly, Garnett and Georgia; and brothers, Daryl and Wayne.
Roy was born January 2, 1928, in New Sharon, Iowa, the son of Roy and Jesse (Carpenter) Coe. In 1951, he was united in marriage to Shirley M. Simmons in New Sharon, Iowa. She died October 6, 2004. Roy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Labors Local 43 and worked at the Coe family Saw Mill in Red Rock.
Roy was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Marion American Legion but it was his family he loved most and he was affectionately known as Sam by his brothers-in-law, family and close friends.
Instead of flowers memorials may be made in Roy?s memory to Grinnell Regional Hospice, 210 4th Avenue, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
