Roy O. Beasley, 85, of Central City, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, in Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Central City, by the Rev. Jonna Jensen. Graveside Services: 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Pennington Cemetery in Sigourney. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.
Surviving are his children, Shirley Craig and husband Robert of Ottumwa, Beverley Denny and husband Lynden of West Des Moines, Marjory Michels of Central City and Jim, Linda Hagerman and husband Junior of Central City and Dennis Beasley and wife JoAnn of Central City; and a sister Letha Spiess of Estes Park, Colorado.
Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wanda, a daughter, Marilee Beasley, a brother, Ralph, two sisters, Lelia and Lila, and a grandson, Jonathan.
He was born the son of Roy C. and Elsie Morrow Beasley on August 31, 1917, in Hayesville, Iowa. On August 17, 1937, in Sigourney he was united in marriage to Wanda M. Cook. She died April 29, 1983. Roy farmed in the Ottumwa area for many years and also delivered fuel. The family later moved to the Central City area, where he was involved in law enforcement as a town marshal from 1963 to 1965. He and his wife also operated the Highway Inn Café in Central City.
He later moved to Blairstown where he was a town marshal, school bus driver, harness maker and was also employed by the City of Blairstown in the maintenance department.
Roy was an avid horseman and loved dogs.
