Roy M. Anderson, 85, of 1150 Longview Dr., died Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, from complications of cancer. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 29, 2008, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection by Rev. Dennis Johnson. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Delores of Marion; three daughters, Carol (Edward) Fletcher of Big Pine Key, Florida, Patricia DeVore of Marion, and Linda (Marty) Wilcox of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Norman (Virginia) Anderson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; three grandchildren, Shanna, Josh, and Ty; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Chase.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas; a daughter, Barbara; three brothers; and five sisters.
Roy was born February 28, 1922, the son of Anton and Sarah (Lilliland) Anderson in Hartford, South Dakota. He graduated from Indiana Tech. On June 30, 1946, he married Delores Christensen in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Roy served with the U.S. Navy during WWII and later with the Naval Reserve. He was employed at Rockwell Collins for thirty-three years, retiring in 1984.
Roy was a charter member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.
Roy was an avid fisherman and a ham radio operator. He adored his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved them dearly.
A memorial fund has been established in Roy’s memory.
Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
