Rosemary F. Ryan, 87, of Masonville, died December 30, 2008 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville by Rev. John Flaherty. Family will greet friends from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 2 with a 3:00 p.m. Scripture Service. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Masonville.

Rosemary was born May 30, 1921 in rural Masonville, the daughter of Edwin G. and Emma (BeBee) McGraw. Following graduation from Lamont High School, worked at the Mental Health Institute in Independence. On May 17, 1944, she was united in marriage to Paul W. Ryan at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti, Iowa. The couple farmed south of Masonville in Buchanan County until 1966. Rosemary worked as a bookkeeper for Paris and Sons in Masonville, Manchester Feed and Grain in Manchester. Rosemary continued to live in the Masonville area until moving to the Good Neighbor Home in 1997.

Rosie was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville. She enjoyed crafts, especially crocheting and made over 300 individual doilies for friends and family. Rosemary was an avid bingo player and loved playing cards and having lunch and dinner with her friends. Rosie enjoyed the camaraderie of the other residents of the Good Neighbor Home, many of whom she had known for years.

Rosie is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (Charles) Shaw of Loveland, CO, and Carol (Pat) Cannon of Marion; seven grandchildren, Patrick, Matthew, Peter, and Joe Shaw, Chris, John, and Ann Cannon; ten great-grandchildren; four sisters, Arlene (Henry) Maiers of Holem, Wisconsin, Ruth (Joe) Falconer of Manchester, Patricia (Harry) Winchester of Holem, Wisconsin, and Joan (Vernon) Gudenkauf of Monti; and one brother, Bill McGraw of Manchester. Rosie was the last aunt-in-law in the Ryan family.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin & Emma McGraw, her husband, Paul W. Ryan in 1986; a daughter, Connie Ryan Shaw in 1991; and three brothers, Raymond McGraw, Dennis McGraw, and Bob McGraw and one sister-in-law, Joanne McGraw.
