Rosemary K. Hunt, 93, of Greeley, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester by Rev. Joseph Schneider. Visitation will be 3:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Manchester and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Greeley.
Rosemary was born October 26, 1920 in Dyersville, IA, the daughter of William H. and Elizabeth A. (Clemen) Hagemann. Rosemary graduated from Greeley Consolidated High School in 1938. Following graduation, she worked at Walgreen Drug Store in Waterloo.
On April 21, 1942, Rosemary was united in marriage to Albert E. Hunt at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Greeley. The couple worked together on their farm near Greeley. Rosemary was an excellent homemaker, gardener, and seamstress. Rosemary and Albert were devoted members of St. Joseph’s Parish for over 50 years. Rosemary served as a lector and was a CCD teacher. After Saint Paul’s Educational Center opened in Manchester, Rosemary taught CCD there and also took part in Tec, CEW, and Marriage Encounter. For many years, Rosemary was involved with the American Cancer Society. During their life together, Rosemary and Albert were active in 4-H and enjoyed working with young people. Part of this enjoyment was traveling and chaperoning these young adults, as well as, hosting foreign exchange students from the Philippines, Japan, Germany and England. After Albert’s death in 1998, Rosemary moved to Independence, IA. She was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church, volunteered with Cedar Valley Hospice and enjoyed mentoring in the Independence schools. Her family and extended family were her pride and joy.
Rosemary is survived by her children, Barbara Elsasser of Bloomington, IL., Roger (Marianne) Hunt of Columbus Junction, Nancy (Johnny) Dodge of Independence, Michael (Deborah) Hunt of Greeley, and William “Bill” (RoseMary) Hunt of Earlville; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Agnes Von Berckefeldt of Walnut Creek, CA.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth Hagemann; her husband, Albert; a grandson, Jonathan Dodge; a son-in-law, George Elsasser; siblings, Edward (Edna) Hagemann, Arnold (Rita) Hagemann, Lucinda (Henry) Dingbaum, Leona (Claire) Hanna, Esther (Claire) Kelly, Judy (Bob) Seward, Martha (Linus) Mensen; and one brother-in-law, Ted Von Berckefeldt.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, a memorial fund has been established.
