Rose Marie “Rosie” O’Brien, 77, of Ryan, died peacefully January 28, 2009 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2009 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monti, Iowa by Revs. Joe O’Brien and Greg Bahl. Family will greet friends from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 30 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa and one hour before services at the church in Monti. Burial will be at the St. Patrick Cemetery in Monti.
Rosie was born May 3, 1931 in Delaware County, daughter of Louis and Evelyn (Cannon) Doyle. She graduated in 1948 from St. John’s High School in Ryan and 1950 from Mt. Mercy College, Cedar Rapids with a business and accounting degree. On June 6, 1953, Rosie was united in marriage to James Thomas O’Brien at St. Patrick Church in Ryan. The couple farmed for 54 years in the Monti area before moving to Ryan in April 2007.
Rosie was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan and St. Ann’s Study Club. She loved her family, flowers and the rosary.
Rosie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jim O’Brien; six children, Thomas (Julie) O’Brien of Cedar Rapids, Daniel (Helen) O’Brien of Coggon, Timothy (Maureen) O’Brien of Marion, Catherine (Steve) Werner of Manchester, Mary (David) Melchert of Monticello, and Michael (Carrie) O’Brien of Anamosa; seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; in-laws, Patricia Green of Tama, Rev. Joe O’Brien of Dubuque, and Donald (Bernita) O’Brien of Marshalltown.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Evelyn Doyle; one brother, Duane Doyle; brothers-in-law, Robert O’Brien, and Richard “Butch” Green, and one son-in-law, David Bohlke.
