Rose M. Bolton, 90, of 202 - 35th St. Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Coggon, died Friday, September 2, 2005, at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, after a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 5, 2005, at United Parish Church in Coggon, by the Rev. Stan Wierson. Burial: Coggon Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 - 6 p.m. Sunday (September 4) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City and one hour prior to the services Monday at the church.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Heffernen, and Patricia (Noel) Huber, all of Marion, and Judith (Edmund) Bauer of Walker; a stepdaughter, Roberta (Doug) Tankersley of California; three brothers, Peter of Rhode Island, Robert of California and Theodore of Washington state; two sisters, Eleanor of Florida and Esther of Central City; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, and a grandson, Daniel.
Rose was born August 30, 1915, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She married Edwin J. Smith in Waukegan, Illinois, and they later divorced. On October 26, 1946, she was united in marriage to Leonard Bolton in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Leonard died in 1972. Rose was employed by the Coggon Post Office for many years, retiring in 1977 as postmaster. She was a member of the United Parish Church in Coggon, Coggon American Legion Auxiliary Post 362 and Linn-Benton Postmasters Association.
