Ronald L. Sturgeon, 55, of 2104 18th Street SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died on Monday, May 21, 2007, at the Veteran's Hospital, Iowa City, of multi-myeloma. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, by Rev. Jack Kendall. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his two sons, Jason and Adam, both of Fort Dodge, Iowa; a daughter, Karen June of Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Theresa (Lester) Sturgeon, Connie (Harry) Rote, both of Cedar Rapids, Sandra Williams of Wichita, Kansas, and Vicki (Leonard) Weems of Marysville, Washington; his special friend, Jennifer, mother of Karen; and many other relatives in the area.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ron was born May 14, 1952, the only son of Deane and Darlene June (Wassendorf) Sturgeon, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended the Cedar Rapids School System. Ron was proud to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. For 14 years, he worked at Harnischfeger as a painter. He also worked seasonally at the Cedar Rapids Country Club doing whatever was needed for his longtime friend, Cam Watts. For the past 20 years, Ron had worked for Cerka Enterprises, helping both David, Sr. and David II with the trucking business and janitorial services.
His presence, strength, and great laughter will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
