Ron was born on December 9, 1946, in Seneca, Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Eileen (Buser) Savago. He attended East Buchanan Schools in Winthrop, Iowa, and went on to serve in the Iowa National Guard. Ron married Nancy Jane Shaw on September 14, 1973; four children were born to this union. Ronnie worked for Carl Zitelman of Masonville for several years constructing concrete waterways in fields and then worked for McKlveen and Sons where he traveled across Iowa building fence along the interstate. In 1972, Ronnie started working for the railroad, where he worked for 34 years until his retirement in 2006. He started as a track maintenance worker with Illinois Central, followed by Chicago Central Pacific, and retired as a track foreman for Canadian National. Ronnie also farmed near Masonville for several years while working on the railroad. After retiring, Ron went on to work for Paul Niemann Construction for 11 years. He was known for his work ethic and was a very hard worker in everything he did. Ron enjoyed attending the Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant, listening to old Rock N Roll and Country Western music, riding his motorcycle around the countryside, and he was very handy at carpentry. Most of all, Ron loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ron is survived by his wife, Nancy Savago of Ryan; children, Bob (Andi) Savago, of Marion, Larry (Katie) Savago of Dundee, Iowa, Michael Savago (Diane Smith) of Lamont, Iowa, and Lynne Savago-Brustkern (John) of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren, Cooper, Elizabeth, Chloe and Phoenix; siblings, JoAnn (Jim) Enos of Stockton, Illinois, Janice Rice (Mike Grace) of Elberon, Iowa, and Valda (LaVern) Schaul of Masonville.
