Ron S. Palzkill, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died surrounded by his family on Monday, January 13, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Services: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014, at St. Ludmilla Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Wayne Droessler and Deacon Jim Berger. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; children, Ryan Palzkill (Olga Zavala) of Cedar Rapids and Erin (Nick) Cookson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Nathan Palzkill and Cameron, Mariah, Keely and Austin Cookson; sisters, Judy (Norm) Montgomery of Beloit, Rita (Jerry) Whitford of Monona and Joyce (Rod) Phelps of Cottage Grove; brothers, Ed, Mark, Roger (Patty), Brian (Barb), Joe (Cindy) Bruce (Anne) all of Mineral Point, David of Tucson, Wayne of Edgerton and Scott (Linda) of Linden; and sister-in-law, Carol Palzkill.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jim Palzkill.
Born May 18, 1950, in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, Ron was the son of Herman and Mary (Detwiller) Palzkill. He graduated from Mineral Point Unified High School in 1968, and went on to barber school. In August of 1975, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Hasbrouck. Ron served his country in the U.S. Marines. He retired after 44 years from Hooper Corporation in Madison, Wisconsin, where he was an equipment operator working on power lines.
Ron played football in high school, was a member of the American Legion in Atkins and Mineral Point, Wisconsin, and the IBEW Local 55 out of Des Moines. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage. He was a very active part of his grandchildren’s lives, acting as a valet and chauffer for the family.
