Ronald E. Nielsen, 78, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2006, at home, after a short battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Alice United Methodist Church, rural Center Point, Saturday, November 11, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. by Rev. Nick Needham. Burial: Alice Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Center Point.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Joan; a daughter, Trina Kula and husband John of Alburnett; a son, Kevin Nielsen and wife, Patty of Alburnett; a sister, Marie Brown of Anamosa; and a brother, Robert Nielsen and wife, Jaclyn of Vida, Oregon; four grandchildren, Matthew Kula and friend, Dana of Center Point, Dan Kula and wife, Andrea of Center Point, Jennifer Nielsen and friend, Derek of Alburnett and Brenda Nielsen and friend, Zach of Cedar Rapids; and four great-grandchildren, Tanya, Trista, Lucas, and Dee Kula; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Eldeva (Stone) Nielsen and four brothers, Marven, Rayman, Harold and Dick.

Ronald was born the son of Andrew and Eldeva (Stone) Nielsen on June 29, 1928, near Springville, Iowa. The family lived in Springville until his freshman year of high school. They then moved near Alburnett and he graduated from Alburnett High School in 1948. He belonged to the Alice United Methodist Church. On March 17, 1950, in Marion, he was united in marriage to Joan L. Rose. They were blessed with two children, Trina and Kevin. He worked in Cedar Rapids at Iowa Manufacturing and then began farming in 1950. He continued to farm and worked at the Standard Service Station in Alburnett. Ronald retired from the service station in 1990 and continued to help on the farm, especially during harvest, until his illness.

Ronald was a kind and loving man who loved his family. He was proud of his Danish heritage and traveled to Denmark several times and met his relatives. He loved fishing and traveled to Canada for many years. The last twelve years he spent the winter in Alamo, Texas.

Ronnie?s family would like to extend a special thank-you to St. Luke?s Hospice, especially Zola who gave him excellent care and comfort to the family.

A memorial fund has been established and memorials may be directed to the organization of the donor?s choice in Ronald?s memory.
