Ronald “Ron” Gary Klinsky, 62, of Iowa City and Spencer, Iowa , went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Family will greet friends from 9-10 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service will be at 10 following the visitation at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his significant other, Pam Hegerfeld of Spencer, Iowa; brother, J. Dennis Klinsky of Canada; niece and nephew, Sonja Klinsky of Tempe, Arizona, and Aaron Klinsky of Canada; and sister Pam’s significant other, Rufus Bender of Coralville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two sisters, Janice Ellen and Pamela Sue Fisher; and a sister-in-law, Rose Klinsky.
Ron was born on November 22, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa, the adopted son of Joseph and Marrianne (Trejtnar) Klinsky. He graduated from City High, Iowa City, in 1972. He was a past member of Boy Scouts of America, obtaining the rank of Life, and was elected by member to the position of Senior Patrol. He was also on the Honor Roll in 8th grade, All State orchestra in 9th and 11th grades, All State Band in 10th and 12th grades and 1st chair clarinet as a junior at the Southeastern Iowa Honor Band. Ron was also in track and cross country for City High School for three years, and was awarded the track letter and attended the Drake Relays.
Ron attended Coe College for Cosmetology. In college he was 1st chair clarinet as a junior in the Coe College Honor Band in 1970. Ron served in the United States Navy for 4 years from 1972-1978. As a Navy musician, Ron preformed with the Navy Band in Great Lakes, IL for military functions as well as off base for civilian activities; such as parades and dances. He was Honorably discharged in 1978. He enjoyed playing at the Clay County Fair, Arts on Grand, Sioux Empire Mall for Christmas and for the yearly Sweetheart Supper at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer. Ron also accompanied Pam and her students at concerts.
