Ronald L. Ferguson, 74, of rural Urbana, died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, following a courageous battle with a lingering illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Urbana Cemetery, Urbana.
Survivors include his wife, Janis of 52 years; his children, daughter, Rhonda Elias of Marion, sons, Brian of Urbana, Boyd (Karen) of Vinton and Brad (Kris) of Shellsburg; grandchildren, Kimberly, Shaun, Jessica, Sadie, Joy, Haley, Megan, Seth, Eli, Will, Emily, Clint, Joshua and Levi; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Joslyn and Ayva; sisters, Delores (Carl) Zieser of Toddville, Laura (Lowell) Pollock of Walker, Mary (Merl) Mollenhauer of Marion, Lila West of Atkins, Nancy (Joe) Panther of Cedar Falls, Carol (Bob) Johnson of Marion and Marcia (Bob) Deyen of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Charles (Cheryl) of Center Point, Tom (Pat) of Cedar Rapids, and Jack of Fargo, North Dakota; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Myron and Elsie Knaack of Newhall; brother-in-law, Ron (Nancy) Knaack of Hawaii; and sister-in-law, Virginia Ferguson of Phoenix, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Gladys Ferguson; brother, Marshall; and son-in-law, Tom Elias.
Ronald was born June 30, 1933, the son of Glenn and Gladys (Owens) Ferguson in Urbana, Iowa. He served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On April 17, 1955, Ronald was united in marriage to Janis Knaack at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Newhall, Iowa. He worked at Sanitation Laboratories and worked as a supervisor for 20 years at FMC, retiring in 1985. Ronald also worked at Rockwell Goss. He was a member of the Legion Post 264 in Urbana and had served on the Benton County Conservation Board.
A real outdoorsman, Ronald enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, gardening, working on his acreage and baseball. He will also be remembered for his family famous salsa and deer jerky that he enjoyed making. His greatest love was spending time with his family and taking his grandchildren fishing. Ronald will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
