Ronald E. Livingston, 87, of Marion, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha. Celebration of Life: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Faith Lutheran Church, Marion, by Rev. John Albertson. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include his children, Kurt (Linda) Livingston of Marion, Ellen (Dennis) Schmuecker of Marion, Mark (Susan) Livingston of Central City, and Eric (Patricia) Livingston of Marion; 13 grandchildren, Ron (Rosemarie) Livingston, John (Jenni) Livingston, Jennifer (Mike) Thompson, Nicholas (Patricia) Livingston, Lora Schmuecker, Matthew Schmuecker, Lisa (David) Spaeth, Nathan Livingston, Hunter Livingston, Courtney Livingston, Alicia Livingston, Mitchell Livingston, and Samantha Livingston; five great-granddaughters, Katelin Thompson, Finley Thompson, Quinn Thompson, Scarlett Livingston, and Gracie Livingston; sister, Willa Harper of Spokane, WA; and brother, David (Carolyn) Livingston of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet; brother, Conrad Livingston; and grandson, Patrick Livingston.
Ron was born October 2, 1925, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Basil and Rosebud (Park) Livingston. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served during WWII. Upon returning home from the service, he attended and graduated from Parson’s College. Ron married the love of his life, Janet Roenspiess, of Oskaloosa on July 13, 1946, in Kirksville, MO. Ron was the owner and operator of Livingston Hearing Aid Service in Marion for many years, which he ran with his sons.
Ron had a generous heart and was a natural entertainer who could find humor in nearly all situations. His children and grandchildren agree that one of his great gifts to them was the ability to have fun in life, which he did. His greatest passion was fishing and his steady fishing partner over five decades was his friend, Royce McCray. He also enjoyed hunting, playing bridge and time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Ron trained his own hunting dogs. He was a member of the Eastern Iowa Shooting Dog Association, and he loved participating with his son, Mark, in pointing dog field trial competitions. He was also a member of the American Contract Bridge League and the Elks Lodge. Ron will be remembered by many for his golden singing voice, a gift that has been passed down to many of his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to know and be touched by him.
