Rolland Harold "Tiny" Burkart

Rolland “Tiny” H. Burkart, 84, of Walker, Iowa, died Thursday, August 28, 2008, in St. Luke’s Hospital, in Cedar Rapids, following complications of a hip fracture. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at Walker United Methodist Church, Walker, by the Rev. Norman Kelley. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 1, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, with Masonic rites at 7:00 p.m. Inurnment at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Lucile: stepson, James (Joni) Thomas of West Des Moines; stepdaughters, Diane (Tom) Achilles of Omaha and Sarah Thomas of Walker; three step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; three neighborhood grandchildren; and his loving pet, Sadie.
Also surviving are Bruce Shoeberl of Boise, Idaho, Rhonda Mosner of Indianapolis, Indiana and Darla Holden of Westville, Illinois.
Rolland was preceded in death by his parents.
Rolland was born December 10, 1923, in Palo, Iowa, the son of Merle and Ferne (Baldwin) Burkart. He graduated from Walker High School in 1941. On March 10, 1996, he was united in marriage to Lucile “Lucy” Reed-Shakespeare in the Walker United Methodist Church. He worked for Hern Steveson Ford and International Harvester Truck Division.
Rolland was a member of the Walker United Methodist Church, the Benton City Masonic Lodge and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
