Roland Harold Isaacson, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Cedar Valley Bible Church, Cedar Rapids, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Arrangements in Iowa are in the care of Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. The family will also greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019, at Kingston Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kingston, Minnesota, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on Monday. Burial will take place at Kingston Cemetery in Kingston, Minnesota at a later date. Arrangements in Minnesota are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Dassel, Minnesota.
Roland was born November 3, 1935, at home in rural Kingston, Minnesota, the son of Harold Albin and Helmi Estella (Sako) Isaacson. He was raised on a dairy farm near Kingston and attended a country school for eight grades then graduating from Kimball High School. After farming with his father, his Ag Teacher was sent by the principal or superintendent out to their farm to encourage Roland to attend the University of Minnesota where he graduated with an Agriculture and Mechanical Engineering degree. After working at Honeywell for eight years and meeting and marrying his wife, Mary, he decided to become self-employed. He loved adventure, including the adventure of investing in business.
He enjoyed many activities, golf, skiing, hiking, volleyball, baseball, coaching and playing family games. After raising their children, Roland and Mary spent 17 winters in Florida. They met many new friends. When Roland was diagnosed with Alzheimers, he decided he wanted to live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following the Lord was very important to Roland. Attending and being active at Plymouth Lutheran Church in Minnesota and then Cedar Valley Church in Cedar Rapids.
He will be greatly missed. Roland enjoyed all kinds of people. He especially loved being a father and grandfather. It was very important to Roland that his children and grandchildren follow Jesus Christ.
Roland is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Isaacson of Cedar Rapids; his three children, Janelle (Jeff) Everly, Gregory (Emily) Isaacson, and Lisa (Cody) McIntyre; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Ryan Everly, Hannah, Ellie, Zachary, and Drew Isaacson, and Alex and Andria McIntyre; two sisters, Karen (Jon) Lundby and Kathleen (Wayne) Rapley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
