Roger Alan Williams, 74, of Marion, died Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Celebration of Life: 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Edith; 4 children, Mark (Mary Anne) Williams, Denise (Chuck) Lewis, Dion (Laurel) Williams, and Danielle (Patrick) Beebe; 12 grandchildren, Mallory, Cassandra, Joseph, Brandon, Christopher, Kaitlynn, Kathryn (Tim), Alexandra, Rosslyn, Mark Nicholas, Bradley (Bruna), and Holli (special friend, Steve); great-granddaughter, Liliana; brother, Michael Williams; many nieces and nephews; and others special to him, Benjamin, Justin, and Jonathan.
Roger was born August 21, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Nicholas and Esther (Blessing Cork) Williams. On July 31, 1956, Roger was united in marriage to Edith Carlson in Vinton. He started at Collins Radio where he designed multi-layered circuit boards for projects as large as the Trident Submarine. He retired in 1991, as a Research and Design Specialist. Roger loved working on his own engineering projects, camping by the river, mastering his PC, and wintering in Texas.
